5 May Moves for All Major Muscles Before Memorial Day

My 5 May Moves for getting the beach body before Memorial Day are here! Follow these steps with 5-10lb weights and you manage to sculpt your triceps, biceps, shoulders, chest, upper back, lower back, glutes, inner thighs, calves, quads and abs!

Triceps lunges: works triceps, quads and glutes

Start with your right leg forward and left leg behind in preparation for a lunge. Hold one or both weights in your hands directly overhead. Bend your knees to 90 degrees into a lunge, making sure legs are far enough apart so that your front knee is directly over the ankle, not the toe. At the same time, bend your elbows to lower the weights behind your head in a Triceps French Press. Keep the elbows close to your head and pointing directly up. Next, straighten the legs to complete the lung and press the weights back to the sky for one rep. Do 15 reps, then switch legs and repeat for one set.

4 part squat:  works inner thighs, glutes, quads, calves, biceps and shoulders

Start in a plié squat position with your legs twice as wide as your shoulders, knees and toes pointing to the sides. Your knees should track over your ankles when you lower. Hold the weights in each hand facing the center line of your body for a hammer curl, and as you stand up, bring the weights to shoulder level. Next, balance up on the balls of the feet to work your calves, and do a shoulder press with the weights overhead. Lower heels and weights drop to shoulder level again. DO another plié squat and lower weights back to starting position for one rep. Perform 20 reps for one set.

Upper Back Plank: works abs,  trapezius, rhomboids, pectorals, triceps, rear delts

Take the weights to the floor and balance on top of them in a high plank with knees off the floor and hands directly under your shoulders. Look between your hands so that you keep the neck and spine in line. (Your knees can be on the floor to modify, but make sure they are behind your hips so that your torso is diagonal and abs are activated.) Next, lift your right elbow to the sky for a row that works your trapezius, rhomboids and rear delts. Place the hand back to the floor and repeat with the other arm for one rep. Do 20 reps for one set.

Down and Dirty: works pectorals, trapezius, rhomboids, rear delts, glutes, hamstrings,  biceps, triceps and especially the lower back)

Now you get to lose the weights, but  the work gets harder with push-ups to T flies! Set up into a plank with the arms wide and look between your hands. Band the elbows directly out to the sides so that as you lower to a push-up, your elbows track directly over your wrists in a right angle (looks like a goal post). Push back to start and keep your abs tight. Perform 10 reps, and on the last one, lower all the way to the floor. Extend your arms out to the side like wings (your body will look like a lower case letter “t”. Next bring your entire body off the floor except for your belly. Keep the elbows and knees only slightly bent. Preform 10 T Flies to strengthen your back lower and build better posture  by working the upper back and your rear. Do 10 more push-ups and then 10 more T flies to complete one set of 40 moves.

Weighted Oblique Crunch: works obliques and quads

Lay on your back with one weight in your left hand. Place the hand on your right shoulder. Bend the right leg and place the heel on the floor. Straighten the left leg so it hovers above the ground about 4 inches. Next, crunch the weighted right shoulder toward your straight left leg as you bend the left knee to bring it toward you. Straighten back to starting position for one rep. Do 20 reps on the right shoulder then switch sides and repeat for 20 to equal one set.
